Pink Puppy in Paris Birthday

I was thrilled when my Goddaughter wanted me to make her cake for her 8th Birthday.

When my friend told me that the theme was 'Puppies', I had some ideas for what I wanted to make. She then showed me the Cake Topper and sent me a link to the paper goods on 'Birthday Express'. I was thrilled to see all the beautiful colors. Her only request was that the cake be Purple!!!

I decided to make a two-tiered cake and try my hand at fondant again. I had some success last year with my daughter's cake, but I was still hesitant to keep using it. The bottom tier was a white cake (tinted purple) and yellow butter cake. The top tier was a chocolate cake with mini chocolate chips in the batter.

The cakes were delicious and she was thrilled with the way it turned out!!!!!

A Cake made for a Princess!!!

My niece is the apple of my eye.
She is truly a girl's girl.
Last year for her birthday I made her wand cookies for her Tinkerbell Themed Birthday Party. It was the first time working with sugar dough and Royal Icing and I think they came out great. They were a big hit!!!

TinkerBell Wand Cookies

This year she planned a Rapunzel/Tangled Themed Birthday Party.
I had peeked at a few very pretty cakes and wanted to try my hand at using a Wilton Cake Kit for the first time, so I purchased the castle kit, crossed my fingers and started planning....

After lots of planning and trial and error in my head, this is the final cake. I think it came out great for my first attempt at using the kit. Since then, I have peeked at designs that other people have used, while making a cake with the kit, and am excited to try it out again....

I also wanted to include another picture tutorial, so others can see how simple it is to make the cake.

1. Piped different sized Royal Icing flowers onto waxed paper and let them dry overnight

2. Looked at all the PLAIN castle pieces and chose pieces that I would use.

3. Hand piped detail onto towers, windows and doors and added the Royal Icing Flowers.

4. Baked 2 cakes -
One 14-inch Cookies and Cream Pound Cake. I want to say Thank you "Baker Street" for the wonderful recipe. You can find other wonderful recipes at: http://bakerstreet.tv/

I doubled the recipe and used less than the two full batches to fill the 14-inch pan. The remaining batter was used for muffins that my kids ate. They gave me two thumbs up.

For the full Recipe, click this link: Cookies and Cream Pound Cake

I also made a chocolate and vanilla 9-inch checkerboard cake and crumb coated both.

5. I Frosted the cakes with 2 batches of Cream Cheese Frosting.
I used my Go-To Recipe from Glorious Treats: www.glorioustreats.com

For the Recipe and different variations of it, click here: Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

I tinted one batch of the Cream Cheese Frosting green and left the other batch without tinting.  I frosted both cakes and used the Petal Technique to make faux-bricks on the top tier. I stacked the cakes and then assembled the castle pieces...

And it was done!!!

A 'Petal Effect' Birthday Cake

A small, simple, yet elegant birthday cake was a request for a birthday luncheon with a few people.

I made a simple Vanilla Confetti cake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. I saw a great idea and technique on the site:
"Glorious Treats"
for frosting the cake in a beautiful and unique way.

I often check this site for creative ideas that turn the ordinary into extraordinary. She has delicious recipes too.

I personally HATE frosting cakes with buttercream. I struggle to get the cake completely smooth. I have tried traditional buttercream and spatula only and the VIVA paper towel technique and I continue to struggle. This technique now has given me hope... I am now ready to take cakes again.

It was simple to do and that's the truth, especially coming from me. I also made the flowers, the night before, from royal icing and let them dry on waxed paper. I think they added a nice touch.

Barbie Birthday Cake and Cookies

I am the proud godparent to a beautiful and talented little girl. For her 7th birthday, she decided on a "Barbie Theme" after she looked at her other options. She loves her dolls and loves fashion.
After some research, I decided to go with the Barbie Silhouette for the majority of the cookies and the high heeled shoes and birthday cakes for the other cookies.
I  made mini-doll cakes. They were a big hit. They were chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream icing.

She absolutely loved them.

The doll cakes were:

An Anniversary Cake

After receiving some compliments on the mini-cakes I've been designing, I received an order for an Anniversary cake for our very dear friends.

It was such an honor to make a cake to commemorate their beautiful marriage.
She liked this design (as I had previously made it for another party) and said that either the carrot cake or red velvet cake would be fine.

This is:
Red Velvet Cake
White Cream Cheese Filling
Green Cream Cheese Frosting
Pink Cream Cheese Details
Royal Icing Sugar Flowers

Upon celebrating their anniversary, she sent me a message saying that everyone enjoyed it, especially her 2 year old daughter, Gigi.

Thank you Wendy and Rudy for allowing me to make a special cake for you!

Carrot Cake

I was excited to make a carrot cake for my dear friend's BBQ.
I kept the design simple and concentrated on the inside of the cake.

I included some crushed pineapple, coconut flakes and 2 cups of shredded carrots. It had Cream Cheese Filling, Cream Cheese Frosting and Royal Icing Flowers.

I think it was very tasty and I was told that it was so moist and delicious.

Here are the pictures:
