When I say pretty, I mean, pretty.... Bows and Eyelashes pretty...

My cousin sent me a picture of a gorgeous set of cookies made by The Baking Sheet and I was inspired.

A Very Bubble Guppies Birthday

If you all follow this blog, you know that when my children (including my niece and nephew) make a special request for their birthday, I always try my best to get the job done.

For my Nephew's 2nd Birthday, My sister told me that it would be a

"Bubble Guppies Birthday Party"

Complete with a "Bubble Guy" entertainer.

So I went right to work looking up ideas to create a dessert table fit for a Prince, I mean 'Merboy'. And I found a million Ideas on Pinterest....

For the cake, I made a Chocolate Snickerdoodle Cake as the bottom layer and a Cinnamon Streusel top layer.
Decorated the whole cake with blue Vanilla Buttercream and Blue Fondant 'Wave' decor.

For the decor, I attached Bubble Guppies characters made out of Wafer paper and made with edible ink.
I also added Brown Sugar 'Sand' and Fondant seashells, starfish and sand dollars with some green royal icing seaweed.

Clamshell Snickerdoodle cookies also adorned the table with Royal Icing holding the Bubblegum 'Pearl.

Excuse the fuzzy picture. I also made Banana Upside-down Muffin Sand Castles with little paper flags. Laying in the Brown Sugar 'Sand' were Vanilla Sugar cookie and Royal Icing Sand Dollars.

The Bubble Guppies also made an appearance on the Sugar Cookies decorated with Wafer Paper and Royal Icing Border.

The 'Bubble Guppies' Dessert Table was a Success. I think everyone enjoyed the tasty creations made for his birthday.

Also included on the table were:
Cake Pops
#2 and letter 'A' sugar cookies
And the SMASH cake for the birthday boy.

Giving Back and what I do on Facebook

Sometimes I have to admit the obvious... I am a social media addict. I don't necessarily use Facebook to gossip with other people or start a feud between old friends, BUT I do the following:

- I stalk celebrity gossip news
- I stalk other cookie decorators and food bloggers

Okay...

The first one is kind of a time killer and also brain cell killer and my guilty pleasure.

My husband often wonders why I care so much about people I don't know and will never meet, but I have always had a weird fascination with celebrities and the lives they live. Don't get me wrong, I am not an attention seeker myself and would NEVER want to be famous, but I love to hear juicy gossip. LOL!

It is so bad that I consider a subscription to 'US Weekly', given to me by my oldest daughter, one of the BEST gifts ever.

The second is just a fascination with food. I LOVE all things food, if you couldn't tell by this baking blog. Although I have always been a dessert before dinner, in my mind, kinda girl, I fancy a great meal now. I have learned to appreciate food so much more now that I'm older.

When looking at other Facebook pages I follow, I feel a sense of community and being able to gawk at the beautiful things others have made.

So, it happens to be that on a particular day, I came across a post from 'The Baking Sheet'. She is a baker from my state that I follow and I always admire her cakes, especially how perfect her fondant skills are. On this post, she expressed gratitude on receiving a letter and a Thank You sticker from "Icing Smiles", a non-profit organization that provides cakes and decorated cookies to families affected by the critical illness of a child.

I immediately looked up the site and read the requirements and within minutes, I had filled out the donation form without thinking twice about it.

I was so excited. That was on March 30th and on April 14th, I received an email with a request for decorated cookies for a little boy and his family in Georgia. I accepted the assignment and began to brainstorm ideas. Since there was no request for design, I was told to make something generic.

My representative, Tiffany, from the organization was wonderful. She answered all my questions and helped me choose an appropriate design.  We agreed that I could make summer-themed cookies and I could not be happier with the way they turned out.

The family received a total of 20+ cookies in total. I hope they loved them as much as I loved making them.

The gift of giving fills and warms the heart....

Have a Sweet Day!

Ladybugs, Ladybugs....

I had the honor of being contacted by a cake decorating friend who was looking to have some ladybug cookies made for her niece's birthday.

My friend lives in NY and her niece lives in Florida and was unfortunately unable to go this year, but she still wanted to send something special and something made just for her.

I was so happy to do this project because I love ladybugs... My husband and I are blessed to find several in our bedroom during the summer months. He always tells me that they are good luck. We catch them and release them but are always pleasantly surprised to see more visit.

I found this information about Ladybugs online:

The Ladybug is widely considered a symbol of luck and is seen as a good omen when it comes calling. In Sweden, it is said that if one lands on a young woman's hand, she will soon get married. In France, it is said that if you are ill when one lands on you, it will fly away with your illness.

Ladybug teaches life is short and it teaches to let go of ones' worries and fears, to trust in spirit and enjoy life. It brings the gifts of renewal and regeneration. The message of the Ladybug could be asking you to “Let go and let God”.

Thanks to Sugarbelle for her great tutorial and help with making the second set of cookies.

I made two sets... One facing one way and one facing the other way.

Happy Happy Birthday to my friend, M's, niece. I hope it was a great one and that she, her family and her friends enjoyed the cookies.

Lobsters, Champagne and Popcorn Cookies

I recently had another special request for a birthday.
Usually women want jewelry, specifically diamonds, spa treatments and fancy handbags and shoes for their birthday.
My sister's boss only has 3 requests from her family for her birthdays. She asks for a dinner consisting of Lobster, Champagne and Popcorn. Yes, I said "Popcorn".

My sister thought it'd be a great idea to make those three items in cookie form and I did!!!!

Here they are...

Ice Cream Cookies

I created an assortment of fun cookies for a get together at a dear friend's home.

The set included:
Three (3) different ice cream cookies
Flip Flops
Martini Glasses

The kids enjoyed them so much!
I think I only saw crumbs in the container when it was time for me to leave.

I think the sprinkles on the ice cream came out really cute.
