"Frozen" Birthday Party Cake and Cookies

When my niece has a birthday and says,  "jump", I most certainly do.....

This year's theme was "Frozen".

Since my sister was celebrating her birthday at a all-inclusive party place (crafts, pizza and cupcakes), I decided to surprise my niece with a small, itty bitty Olaf-inspired cake.

I made her a two-tiered (6 in and 4in) cake complete with an Olaf topper, royal icing snowflakes and small fondant snowballs.

I found an AMAZING step-by-step/picture-by-picture tutorial on how to make Olaf with fondant and gumpaste on Cake Central.

If you want to try and make an Olaf too, you can find the tutorial HERE: http://cakecentral.com/b/tutorial/olaf-from-frozen

I followed the tutorial, but my Olaf was a little different that the one pictured on the tutorial, as I made him standing on his two snow-feet and not leaning to the side. I also ran a wooden skewer through the whole body into the head so he'd be a lot more stable.

I added some royal icing snowflakes and some fondant snowballs. I dusted it all with some shimmering disco dust to give the illusion of snow. My niece totally LOVED it!!! and was soooo surprised!!!

Also included in the party bags were Snowflake sugar cookies that added that extra special touch to the whole occasion. A little airbrush in the center of each cookie added a little pizzazz to the cookies....

I am so happy with the way everything turned out!!!!

2013 Year in Review - Cakes

Well, Here I am again....
I've missed blogging so much.

Just like everything else in life that you put off, the most difficult part is starting up again. Life took over and getting settled into the new house, new community, new schools and new and much longer commute to work has been an adjustment.

The thought of Re-starting this blog has been daunting at times.
I felt overwhelmed each time I sat down to post and I wasn't sure where I should begin.
I have pictures of everything I made, but not much else.
I felt guilty for having left everyone for more than a year and I wish I hadn't.

So, to start again...
I present my 2013 Year in Review - CAKES

Monster High Birthday Cake

My beautiful daughter is a Big "Monster High" Fan. You know, the dolls and cartoon where all the girls are teenagers, but also vampires and the sort. I think it's a cute idea. Both quirky and trendy. She has received some clothes, pajamas and, even, a sketchbook as gifts.

For this very special 10th birthday, her only wish was to have a "Monster High" Cake.

In doing the research online for her perfect cake, she found a beautiful cake with the Monster High Logo on a site:  Ali's Sweet Treats

She was so happy when I said that I would make her one just like it.

Here is her birthday cake:

She LOVED the cake. Inside was a Pink-Tinted Vanilla and Chocolate Checkerboard cake.

I'm so happy that I was able to make her dream cake for her very special birthday!

I hope all her wishes come true!!!!!!

Pink Puppy in Paris Birthday

I was thrilled when my Goddaughter wanted me to make her cake for her 8th Birthday.

When my friend told me that the theme was 'Puppies', I had some ideas for what I wanted to make. She then showed me the Cake Topper and sent me a link to the paper goods on 'Birthday Express'. I was thrilled to see all the beautiful colors. Her only request was that the cake be Purple!!!

I decided to make a two-tiered cake and try my hand at fondant again. I had some success last year with my daughter's cake, but I was still hesitant to keep using it. The bottom tier was a white cake (tinted purple) and yellow butter cake. The top tier was a chocolate cake with mini chocolate chips in the batter.

The cakes were delicious and she was thrilled with the way it turned out!!!!!

Wedding Cake and Cupcakes

A Wedding is one of the most wonderful and memorable moments in a couple's life.
I was recently asked if I would make a small wedding cake with cupcakes for a friend's brother's wedding.

I was initially nervous, as I felt privileged that I was asked and trusted with such a special project.  I then became excited at the thought of creating something so special for the couple.
We decided on:
Yellow butter and Chocolate cupcakes with white vanilla buttercream frosting detailed with a white royal icing flower
and
A 6-inch, three layer, yellow butter cake with homemade pineapple filling in fondant with gumpaste flowers and satin ribbon detail.

My friend called me a few days later and said that it all was PERFECT!
I'm so happy I was able to be part of their special day.
Congrats to the new Mr. & Mrs.

Birthday Cake and Cookies

We just celebrated my daughter's 9th birthday. Another special year for a very special little girl. This year she wanted to celebrate it with a "Victorious" Theme.

Since the main character Tori is a singer, I thought I'd be cute to make music note cookies.

The cake was a two-tiered FONDANT cake!
My very first FONDANT cake...
My daughter was the guinea pig, but I honestly think it looks great for the first attempt.

Bottom layer was confetti cake with chocolate pudding filling.
Top layer was chocolate cake with strawberry preserves filling.
All Decor, even the lollipops were made from Fondant.

Here are the pictures of the cake and cookies:
