"Frozen" Birthday Party Cake and Cookies

When my niece has a birthday and says,  "jump", I most certainly do.....

This year's theme was "Frozen".

Since my sister was celebrating her birthday at a all-inclusive party place (crafts, pizza and cupcakes), I decided to surprise my niece with a small, itty bitty Olaf-inspired cake.

I made her a two-tiered (6 in and 4in) cake complete with an Olaf topper, royal icing snowflakes and small fondant snowballs.

I found an AMAZING step-by-step/picture-by-picture tutorial on how to make Olaf with fondant and gumpaste on Cake Central.

If you want to try and make an Olaf too, you can find the tutorial HERE: http://cakecentral.com/b/tutorial/olaf-from-frozen

I followed the tutorial, but my Olaf was a little different that the one pictured on the tutorial, as I made him standing on his two snow-feet and not leaning to the side. I also ran a wooden skewer through the whole body into the head so he'd be a lot more stable.

I added some royal icing snowflakes and some fondant snowballs. I dusted it all with some shimmering disco dust to give the illusion of snow. My niece totally LOVED it!!! and was soooo surprised!!!

Also included in the party bags were Snowflake sugar cookies that added that extra special touch to the whole occasion. A little airbrush in the center of each cookie added a little pizzazz to the cookies....

I am so happy with the way everything turned out!!!!

Ladybugs, Ladybugs....

I had the honor of being contacted by a cake decorating friend who was looking to have some ladybug cookies made for her niece's birthday.

My friend lives in NY and her niece lives in Florida and was unfortunately unable to go this year, but she still wanted to send something special and something made just for her.

I was so happy to do this project because I love ladybugs... My husband and I are blessed to find several in our bedroom during the summer months. He always tells me that they are good luck. We catch them and release them but are always pleasantly surprised to see more visit.

I found this information about Ladybugs online:

The Ladybug is widely considered a symbol of luck and is seen as a good omen when it comes calling. In Sweden, it is said that if one lands on a young woman's hand, she will soon get married. In France, it is said that if you are ill when one lands on you, it will fly away with your illness.

Ladybug teaches life is short and it teaches to let go of ones' worries and fears, to trust in spirit and enjoy life. It brings the gifts of renewal and regeneration. The message of the Ladybug could be asking you to “Let go and let God”.

Thanks to Sugarbelle for her great tutorial and help with making the second set of cookies.

I made two sets... One facing one way and one facing the other way.

Happy Happy Birthday to my friend, M's, niece. I hope it was a great one and that she, her family and her friends enjoyed the cookies.

Hello Kitty and Bingo Cookies

My best friend, The Birthday Girl, has several fun interests.
Hello Kitty and playing BINGO are just a few of her "Favorite Things".

I totally get the BINGO thing, since I have been known to play with the elder woman of my building and while on vacation.
I thought they'd make a cute addition to a very special birthday cookie assortment made especially for her!!!

The smile on her face were enough to let me know that she loved them!!!

Here are the pics:

Barbie Birthday Cake and Cookies

I am the proud godparent to a beautiful and talented little girl. For her 7th birthday, she decided on a "Barbie Theme" after she looked at her other options. She loves her dolls and loves fashion.
After some research, I decided to go with the Barbie Silhouette for the majority of the cookies and the high heeled shoes and birthday cakes for the other cookies.
I  made mini-doll cakes. They were a big hit. They were chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream icing.

She absolutely loved them.

The doll cakes were:

TinkerBell Wand Cookies

The idea was this...

My niece planned her 4th birthday herself. What she would wear, who would come and that she wanted a visit from Tinkerbell herself...

How could I incorporate a beautiful fairy into a cookie without having to draw her face on each cookie??????
After doing some research on the topic, I realized that Tinkerbell carries a wand and that a 'star wand cookie' would be perfect.
 ----------------------------------
I used a variation of a sugar cookie recipe that I found at:
'Bake @ 350'

She does amazing cookies, so I kinda figured, why not use what the professionals use.

Here is the link to the recipe she uses: Click Here

I tweaked it a bit to fit my taste...

2 3/4 cups unbleached, all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup sugar
2 sticks (salted) butter, cold
1 egg
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract

I love this recipe and use it for all my decorative cookies. I personally like less sugar and more vanilla in my dough.

-------------------------------------------
The girls had wings and they also had a delicious wand, so the idea began to evolve from there. This is the end result....
